As part of the Society's ongoing Digitization Project, past issues of the History Quarterly were initially converted from their original printed format to PDF (Portable Document Format) files, and some volumes (1..14 and 40..42) are still available for viewing as individual articles in that format. More recently we have been in the process of converting the PDF files to HTML web pages for improved access without the PDF qualifications described below.

To view the PDF files you need a viewer application compatible with PDF version 1.6 or above such as Acrobat Reader v8 or greater. The latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader can be obtained free of charge here:

Please note Volumes marked with an asterisk * are PDF only. These PDF files will download to your computer for viewing. The file sizes vary, with most in the 1 to 2 MB range, but in a few cases the files are 8MB or larger, and may take some time to download before you can view them.

Another way to locate articles of interest is to look through the index of article titles from volumes 1 through 45, available here as a PDF file (388 KB).

Search
This custom Google search works just like the familiar Google Search, but the scope of the search is limited to the contents of the TEHS web site. The search results will be displayed in a new window.

Hints:
If the TEHS Search box does not appear to the right, click Refresh to reload the page in your browser. Also, make sure that JavaScript is enabled in your browser Preferences or Options.

For best results when searching for proper names, enclose your search terms with double quotes. For example, entering "George Washington" in quotes will reduce less relevant returns on the individual terms "George" and "Washington" alone.
